(San Jose, CA) Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. (NASDAQ: MXIM) unveiled a new technological innovation; designed for the healthcare technology industry. Specifically, they made public the first ever wrist worn health sensor platform. This new technological innovation, Maxim Health Sensor Platform 2.0 (HSP 2.0), is designed and intended to be used by other businesses. Through HSP 2.0; designers will have access to data, and in turn, be able to develop a wearable solution. The latter, has already received some attention, from professional colleagues.

The Maxim Health Sensor Platform 2.0 (HSP 2.0) is a next generation rapid prototyping device. This device also helps in evaluating and developing of platforms. Additionally, it is referred to as MAXREFDES101#. Combined, the HSP 2.0 and MAXREFDES101#, powers the wrist worn device. In turn, the wrist worn device can monitor electrocardiogram signals (ECG), monitor a heart rate and body temperature. For the designers, this new device is expected to reduce development time, by six months. The development time is for any device that, can be invented around HSP 2.0 and MAXREFDES101#. Andrew Baker is the Managing Director of the Industrial and Healthcare Business Unit at Maxim Integrated. Through a press statement, Mr. Baker said the following. “Wearable and medical device manufacturers can turn to Maxim’s HSP 2.0 to create accurate, wrist-worn health monitoring solutions, shaving off up to six months of the typical development time.” Andrew Baker also said, “Patients and medical professionals are increasingly wanting more real-time exchange of accurate health data collected over an extended time frame, along with the ability to access this data from anywhere.”
Continuing with the Maxim Health Sensor Platform 2.0 (HSP 2.0), this wrist worn device has proprietary sensor and health monitoring technology. Furthermore, the wrist worn device is enclosed in a wrist watch casing. The latter, is intended for supreme functionality. Body monitoring data can be stored directly on the platform. It can stay there, and, be used for patient evaluation. The data can also be streamed to a PC. All of the data, collected from the HSP 2.0, is considered to be user owned. In other words, it is an idea that intends to eliminate data privacy concerns. Furthermore, it is designed to be an “open platform.” This allows designers to evaluate their own algorithms, on the dashboard.
To end, the Maxim Health Sensor Platform 2.0 was designed with designers in mind. For the designer, there are three primary advantages. The first advantage, is a fast time to the market place. This means that, the HSP 2.0 enclosed in a wrist watch casing, reduces additional design and evaluation time. It is estimated that, six months are automatically reduced. The second advantage, is high accuracy. This means that, the HSP 2.0 delivers a high level of accuracy of the collected data. The collected data being the ECG rate, heart rate and the read body temperature. The third advantage, is Arm Mbed support. Arm Mbed is a technological environment. Additionally, it is designed to provide efficient evaluation and rapid application of prototyping. Through the Arm Mbed, there is a high level of abstraction and elimination of the maintenance of the software tools. Additionally, it also provides an extensive library of open source software.
