Install Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow on Samsung Galaxy Note 5

Samsung recently started pushing the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow on the international variant of the Galaxy Note 5 (N920C), the update carries the build number N920CXXU2BPB6 and is currently rolling out via different channels like OTA and KIES. However, the update is currently rolling out in stages so chances of several users not getting the update are high.

Luckily, we have our hands on the official firmware file that you can flash using the Odin flash tool. If you are willing to install Android 6.0.1 on your Samsung Galaxy Note 5, simply follow the guide below.

Install Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow on Samsung Galaxy Note 5

  1. Download Odin and extract it anywhere you prefer. > Download.
  2. Download and extract the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow firmware. The file should have “.tar” file extension. > Download.
  3. Turn off your device and put it in Download Mode by pressing and holding Power + Home + Volume down buttons for a few seconds until you are at a warning screen, once there, press volume up.
  4. Connect your device to the PC using a USB cable.
  5. Odin’s COMM port will light up to either yellow or blue.
  6. Click on AP/PDA button and then select the .tar file you extracted earlier.
  7. Make sure only F. Reset Time and Auto Reboot are checked.
  8. Click the Start button and wait for the process to finish.
  9. Once the process finishes, your phone will reboot automatically.

That is all, folks. You have successfully updated your Galaxy Note 5 to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. In some cases, your phone might end up in a bootloop.
