We have finally stepped into 2016 and will be seeing loads of exciting technology from across the globe. Currently, our eyes are set on the LG G5, we know LG released the G4last year and the phone enjoyed quite a lot of success thanks to its over the top camera and an amazing design. LG released another smartphone after the soaring success of G4 called LG V10, the phone was quite similar to the G4 but with beefed up specs, and dual front camera setup that allowed for wide angle as well as narrow angle selfies. LG even showed enough promise in their software department by releasing Android Marshmallow for both LG G4 and LG G3 over the past couple of months.
This year, LG will be revealing LG G5, we are looking at all the rumours and speculations in order to make a report about what the LG G5 will bring to the smartphone industry. So without further ado, let’s take a look at all the speculations about the LG G5.
The LG G4 featured a 5.5 QHD screen, although the size was the same, the screen was a huge step forward from the screen of LG G3 which failed to impress the masses. LG released the V10 with a 5.7 inch screen but added a small, secondary display that display information like time, notifications, recent used apps. According to rumours and speculations, the LG G5 will have the same secondary display and will be used in several LG handsets to come, as for the screen size on G5, it is said to be 5.3 inch, just a bit smaller than the one used in LG G4.
Speaking of design, the LG G4 featured an all plastic constructions with removable battery door as well as removable battery, V10 had a similar design but with better build quality. Rumours are reporting that the LG G5 will have an all metal construction, could this mean that LG will be getting rid of removable battery? This something only time will tell.
LG made a smart choice by going with Snapdragon 808 instead of the Snapdragon 810 because of the issues that the chipset faced, however, as for the LG G5, the company doesn’t want to hold back. Rumours suggest that LG will be using Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 820 SoC in the LG G5, this will be coupled with the 32 gigs of internal storage and 3 gigs of RAM.
The LG G4 featured one of the best cameras in the market, the 16 megapixel snapper quickly became a fan favourite because of its manual focus ability and the f/1.8 aperture. LG V10 used the same camera. Rumours are telling us that the LG G5 will have a dual 16 megapixel snapper in the back, for those who don’t know, LG already did this with LG V10 which featured two 5 megapixel cameras on the back, one for wide angle pictures and other for normal portraits. As for the front camera, LG G5 will have the same 8 megapixel camera, however, we don’t know any technical specifications.
LG G4 was missing the fingerprint sensor, the company reconciled and released the LG V10 with a fingerprint sensor embedded in the power button as well as the LG Nexus 5X. The rumours we have suggest that the LG G5 will be carrying a fingerprint sensor, however, instead of being embedded in the power button, it will be something like we have seen in the LG Nexus 5X and Huawei Nexus 6P.
Both LG G4 and V10 had a removable 3,000 mAh battery, on paper it sounds ample, but the phones lacked the impressive battery timing just like the LG G3. If you are hoping for a bigger battery in LG G5, you will be disappointed as the next flagship is said to have 2,800 mAh battery, that’s 200 less than the predecessor. Do keep in mind that the Snapdragon 820 is a power efficient processor and considering how the display will also be smaller, you might get better battery on this as compared to LG V10 or G4.
This is something that has created a lot of hype about the LG G5, according to the rumours, LG is putting a “magic slot” in the G5 that will give the phone ability to expand its hardware. We are not sure what exactly this means and how far this technology can go but if implemented right, users can attach external amps, physical keyboard or some camera modules for added functions. It is too early to say anything.
Rumours suggest that LG is gearing to unveil the LG G5 at MWC 2015, the event is taking place on 22nd February, next month. Several rumours also point towards a January launch at IFA 2016 but MWC 2016 would make more sense. As for the pricing, the LG G5 is said to cost above £500 at launch with an eventual decrease in price over time.
