Sony’s Xperia Z1 recently received Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. For those who don’t know, the upgrade obviously ended up breaking the root of people who were previously rooted. Luckily, we have a method that will grant you fully rooted Android 5.0.2 Lollipop along with dual recovery. Simply follow the steps below.

Prerequisites

  • Make sure your battery is charged to at least 70 percent.
  • The ADB drivers must be set up. Here’s how to.
  • Turn on the USB debugging by going to Settings > About Phone > Tapping the ‘Build number’ at least 7-8 times and going back into settings and then going to Developer Options.
  • Backup your apps and important messages.
  • Download and install flashtool from here.
  • (optional) If you are running firmwares newer than the ones released in October, you’re going to need to downgrade. If not, then root the firmware using this and install the recovery from here. Do keep in mind that you’ll need the installer version.
  • (optional) In case you need to downgrade, you can do so by downloading the FTF file of an older firmware and flashing it. Download here.
  • Pre-rooted Lollipop.zip can be downloaded from here.
