Fans of stock Android can now enjoy CyanogenMod 12 that is based on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop on their beloved Xperia Z2’s. The custom ROM is brought to us by XDA member infected_. Despite being unofficial, the ROM is consistently receiving updates. that is mainly because it is currently in nightly status but that’s okay. Nightlies are often considered plagued with several issues but users who have been using this ROM are suggesting that the ROM is almost bug free.
For those who are interested, we have compiled a handful guide that will let you upgrade to the Unofficial CM12 nightlies.
Note: The Guide is for Sony Xperia Z2 (D6503) only. Flashing on other variants can cause a brick.
- Rooted Xperia Z2 with unlocked bootloader. Follow this guide to unlock the bootloader and this guide to root your phone.
- Download the ROM and GApps.
- Make sure your phone has enough charge.
- Backup your apps and contacts.
How to Install Unofficial CM12.0 on Xperia Z2
Step 1: Download the ROM and GApps that are given in the links above.
Step 2: Once downloaded, copy them into your phone.
Step 3: Reboot into recovery using NDRUtils (this is for those who don’t know how to root into recovery using the button combination).
Step 4: Once in recovery, do a factory reset/wipe data and flash the ROM you downloaded earlier.
Step 5: Once the ROM is flashed, flash the GApps.
Step 6: After you are done flashing both the zip files, reboot your phone and wait for at least 5 minutes to finish the boot. Once the phone boots up, set it up and enjoy your CyanogenMod charged Xperia Z2.
