HTC has started rolling out the Android 5.1 update for HTC One M8 GPE or Google Play Edition and like always Mo Versi came to Twitter to announce this good news. The size of the update is only 244MB and it brought the device from 5.0.2 to Android 5.1. Now, We have another interesting news for you guys and that is If you haven’t received the update yet, then you can manually update your HTC One M8 GPE Edition, thanks to the Senior XDA member Dudud who uploaded the OTA update.
Approval for both M8 & M7 GPE versions have been granted by Google for 5.1 OS. OTA out shortly!

Deadwood, the senior member checked this OTA update, and according to him, the update is working perfectly well with the ADB method. The update will be available for all the regions in the coming days but if you can’t wait for a week then all you need to do is to follow the steps below on how you can manually update your HTC One M8 GPE Edition to Android 5.1 Lollipop.
- You have taken the backup of all your favorite data, contacts, emails and media files.
- You have installed the USB drivers for HTC One M8 GPE Edition.
Your device must have more than 60 percent charging remaining.
Your Phone must be in S-Off Mode.
- You have enabled USB Debugging on your device.
How to Manually update HTC One M8 Google Play Edition on Android 5.1 Lollipop:
Step 1: First of all, you need to download the Android 5.1 Lollipop Update for HTC One M8 GPE Edition.
Step 2: Connect your HTC One M8 GPE Edition with your PC and transfer the downloaded file in the internal storage.
Step 3: Now, turn off your device and boot into Recovery Mode.
Step 4: For accessing the recovery mode, Press and hold Volume Down + Power buttons together until the Fastboot menu appears.
Step 5: Navigate the recovery options using the Volume buttons and confirm the option using the Power button.
Step 6: The HTC One M8 GPE will now reboot and you will see a red Android logo with an exclamation mark. Don’t worry, you are right on track.
Step 7: Now, press the Volume Up and the Power button simultaneously to enter in to Stock Recovery.
Step 8: Once you’re in the Stock Recovery, Choose ‘Apply from Phone Storage’ option and select the zip file you downloaded in the first step. When you have selected the zip file, confirm the option by selecting the Power button.
Step 9: The process will now start and will take some minutes to complete.
Step 10: Once completed, select, ‘Reboot System Now’. Your device will now reboot and will now be running on Android 5.1 Lollipop.
That’s it. You have successfully updated your device to Android 5.1 Lollipop. You can verify the Android version by going to Settings > About Phone. If you have any questions let us know in the comments.
