The latest version of Android Lollipop is now out on Nexus 6, it brings a host of changes. But as always, updating the phone to the latest version breaks the root. Luckily, for those who didn’t update because they didn’t want to lose root, the rooting method for the Android 5.1 Lollipop is finally here and you can root your Nexus 6 running the latest update with just few simple steps.

Do know that this method will grant you root access as well as TWRP recovery so for those who are in need of recovery can rejoice. Without wasting any time, let’s head down to business and root the Nexus 6.

Step 1: Download and setup Android SDK along with ADB and Fastboot drivers. In case you don’t know how to, check out this guide.

Step 2: Download the latest version of SuperSu from here and copy it on your SD card, make sure it isn’t copied in a folder.

Step 3: Turn off your phone.

Step 4:  Now download the TWRP recovery and make sure you copy it in the location given; android-sdk-windows\platform-tools.

Step 5: Now turn your phone back on in fastboot mode by pressing and holding volume down and power key together for few seconds till you get a message on screen.

Step 6: Navigate to android-sdk-windows\platform-tools folder and open the command prompt there by pressing the shift key and right click mouse button and choosing the option for opening the command prompt there.

Step 7: Once the command prompt opens, enter the command given below:

fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.5.0-shamu.img

Step 8: Once the recovery is flashed, select the recovery from the menu and reboot your phone.

Step 9: Once you are in TWRP recovery, it’s time to flash the SuperSu zip we downloaded earlier and scroll to ‘choose zip from SD card’ and press the power button to select it and then choose ‘choose zip from sdcard’.

Step 10: Now scroll down and find the ‘UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip’ and select it using the power button and confirm the installation in the next step.

Step 11: After the flashing is done, simply reboot your phone.
