If you own an Android phone, there are high chances that you are already familar with what ADB is. ADB is short for Android Debugging and is one of the most important tools that are needed if you are willing to tweak your Android phone. Accompanying ADB, there is Fastboot. To use one, you must have the other. When it comes to tweaking, there’s a lot you can do but for that you must know how to set up ADB on your Windows. Now there are phones that don’t require the entire setting up and work just fine but for more advanced phones like the Sony and the Nexus phones, there needs to be a properly set ADB and fastboot environment.
Today, we are going to take a look at how to set up ADB on Windows 7 and 8. The process is really easy. Take a look below.
Step 1: First of all; you will be needing the latest Android SDK. Download it from here.
Step 2: Once it’s downloaded, install the SDK. Once it’s installed , go to the folder where it installed and look for the folder named ‘platform-tools’. Since we are only going to need the ADB, this folder is the one you want. Copy the folder somewhere that you’ll easily remember.
Step 3: By now, your ADB is almost set up. However, to make it fully functional you’ll need to make sure the path is set.
Step 4: Right click on My Computer and click on ‘Properties’.
Step 5: Click on ‘Advance system settings’ and click on ‘Advanced’ tab.
Step 6: Click on ‘Environment Variables’. You’ll see that there is a string of variables already present.
Step 7: Simply navigate to the bottom and click on ‘New’.
Step 8: Choose any name for the ‘Variable name’ as for the ‘Variable path’, make sure the path is where you placed the folder. For example;
That’s all, you have fully configured your ADB. To make sure it’s working, go to the folder and open the command prompt there by pressing shift key and right mouse click and then choosing ‘Open command window here’, once the command window opens, simply type ‘adb version’ without inverted commas and hit enter. The command window will display the version of ADB.
