I was a morose when Sony didn’t announce any new flagship. I’ve always been a Sony user and their Z line up is spectacular. I started using when the first Z came out and never shifted so I was really excited to see what the Z4 would look like. Sadly, the company didn’t announce it and the news points towards the fact that Sony will be leaving the high-end business. Despite releasing top of the line, stellar flagships, the company’s been suffering from poor sales. Nevertheless, Sony made sure its presence is felt at the MWC 2015 that’s being held in Barcelona this very moment. The company announced 2 devices. One is a high end Xperia Z4 Tablet and the other one is Xperia M4 Aqua, a mid-high end smartphone with IP68 certification. So without further ado, let’s take a look at both the devices.

Xperia Z4 Tablet

Sony’s been making high-end tablets ever since the first Xperia Z came out. These tablets can be considered the bigger brothers of the phones. Sadly, we won’t be seeing any Xperia Z4 this time but the tablet is here in hopes of cheering up the people who were willing to buy the Z4. The tablet comes with a 10.1 inches of  IPS screen that has a resolution of 2560×1600 pixels, this sums up to 300 ppi. The display will be enhanced through Sony’s triluminous and X-reality technology that ensures sharper and vivider colours.

Under the hood, there is a 64-bit octa core Snapdragon 810 powering the tablet with 4 cores clocked at 2 gigahertz and rest of the 4 clocked at 1.5 gigahertz. There’s 3 gig of RAM on-board as well. We also get 32 gigs of expandable storage, an 8 megapixel camera on the rear and a 5 megapixel wide angle camera on the front. The tablet is also carrying stereo speakers and has 3G, GSM and LTE connectivity. Providing juice to the tablet is a 6,000 mAh battery that will be able to handle 17 hours of video playback. The tablet boots Android 5.0.2 Lollipop along with light customisations from Sony. The tablet is IP68 certified and first Sony tablet to come with an exposed micro USB port. Something I always wanted.

Sony Xperia M4 Aqua

Sony Xperia M4 is the company’s new smartphone, according to Sony as well as the specs, the phone is a combination of both high and mid range specs. This also happens to be company’s first smartphone that has no flaps on the micro-USB connector; this means that you won’t have to go through fights with the flaps. Incase you are wondering about water-proofing, the phone comes with IP68 certification. It’s completely dust tight and can last up to 30 minutes in 1.5m deep water. This is the first Sony smartphone to have flap-less design and to be honest, it’s really an achievement.

Xperia M4 offers a 5.2 inches display that has a 720p resolution. The phone is running the new 64-bit Snapdragon 615 octa core processor with 4 cores clocked at 1.5 gigahertz, and 4 cores clocked at 1.0 gigahertz. There’s 2 gigs of RAM. On the back, we have a 13 megapixel camera and a 5 megapixel camera sits on the front. The phone boots Android 5.0 Lollipop that is lightly customised by Sony. It also has LTE connectivity. In short, Sony pretty much covered everything it could in a phone with such an impressive price tag. There’s a 2,400 mAh battery providing the juice to this device, according to Sony, that’s enough battery to get you through 2 days of normal use.

The Sony Xperia M4 Aqua takes design cues from the Xperia Z3 and is absolutely stunning. The phone will go on sale €299/$335, and will be available to purchase this Spring.
